Dear Incarnation Parishioners,
It is with great joy that on behalf of our vestry that I announce the call of our new rector. How fitting it is that during this time of Advent that is so filled with anticipation, that we await the arrival of The Rev. William Bentley Manning.
Bentley comes to us from St. Mary’s on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church in Birmingham, AL where he has been an Assistant to the Rector since June 2014. In that capacity in addition to normal priestly activities, he has been directly responsible for Adult Christian Education and the Young Adult Ministry, and has been involved in stewardship. He accepted the challenge to help reimagine their 5 o’clock Sunday evening service, which has doubled in its weekly attendance. He has a deep interest in outreach and has served as a missionary in the Dominican Republic, helped coordinate the Episcopal Mission Exchange program while working with Passport, Inc., an ecumenical non-profit, and worked as a Lay Assistant at Iglesia de la Gracia in Birmingham prior to attending seminary at The University of the South, where he served on the Board of Trustees while in seminary.
Bentley and his wife, Leslie, are the parents of two girls, Mary Bentley – age 6, and Alice Grace – age 11/2. Leslie is currently a consultant with Ministry Architects, an organization that helps churches develop strategies for their ministries. They have many prestigious churches as clients from all across the country. Both Bentley and Leslie have a strong Episcopal background as both of their mothers are Episcopal priests.
We look forward to welcoming Bentley, Leslie, Mary Bentley, and Alice into our Incarnation family when they arrive this January. They will be settling into their new home and life during the first two weeks in January. Bentley will assume his full responsibilities on Monday, January 15th, with his first service being Sunday, January 21st.
Please see in addition to this announcement, Bentley’s letter to us.
We are so blessed that God has sent someone as filled with grace, joy, and spirituality as Bentley to Incarnation. May He guide Bentley, his family, and all us as we all work together in Christ to fulfill His mission for the future of our church.
